Olympic Torch Run Through Leesburg - Friday December 21, 2001
On Friday morning, December 21, 2001, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church was the collection
point and the beginning of the relay for the Leesburg leg of the Olympic Torch run.
It was an exciting morning (beginning at 6am) as the runners arrived and relaxed in
our fellowship hall. There were news crews from Channel 9, Channel 8, Fox News and WAGE
Radio (there was even a Fox helicopter filming as the relay began.) According to the Town
of Leesburg, there were over 400 people at our church to send the runners off. Mayor B. J.
Webb was also there along with Leesburg Tourism Coordinator (and Holy Trinity Member)
Marantha Edwards. The relay began at 8:21am and headed towards the center of Leesburg.
We would like to thank Suzanne Belofsky for organizing Holy Trinity's aspect of the
event. Other church members who helped out include Michael Belofsky, Timothy Belofsky,
Rick Landis, Bob Pheobus, Scott Williams, Eldon Stoehr, Charlotte Hoglund,
Jim Truxell, and Steve Graefe. The pictures below are courtesy of Rick Landis.
